Youth demand transparency on Mulungushi

SOME youths in Kabwe have demanded an explanation regarding the 500 promised jobs at Mulungushi Textile ahead of its opening on Thursday by President Hakainde Hichilema.
Speaking on behalf other youths, Francis Kaunda said government had promised to employ over 500 youths at Mulungushi Textile but the silence on the hiring process was creating anxiety.
“The government representations also promised that the jobs will be made public through advertising, which will be announced,” Kaunda said.
He wondered the criteria used in employing the workers.
“Kabwe residents deserve to know which ‘database’ was used to employ the 500 workers ahead of opening of the Textiles firm because no public job advertisement was made to allow residents to apply,” Kaunda said.
He said that opening a business implied everything related to it, including worker hiring, was already sorted.
However, speaking to journalists in Kabwe yesterday, Central Province permanent secretary Dr Milner Mwanakampwe said Hichilema would during the opening unveil its board of directors to be responsible for recruiting workers.
