WE’VE SUFFERED ENOUGH

Zambians must decide whether to continue suffering or not, says Kunda

  • Hichilema and UPND have destroyed Dr Kaunda’s legacy, the motto ‘One Zambia One Nation’ by dividing the nation
  • He has completely failed to govern the nation
  • Dr Kaunda expressed fears about electing Hichilema as president of Zambia.

By Mast Reporter

WE HAVE suffered enough under President Hakainde Hichilema and time has come to kick him out of government and replace him with a responsible leader, says Howard Kunda.

Reflecting on late former president Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s life to mark the Kaunda Day yesterday Kunda, president of the opposition Zambia Wake Up Party (ZAWAPA) and son of late former vice-president George Kunda, said change was inevitable next year because Hichilema had completely failed to govern the nation.

“They don’t even want to listen to the people who elected them. It is now left to the people of Zambia to decide whether they want to continue suffering or not. It is left to the people of Zambia to decide wither they want to continue living in division or not. It is a decision they will need to make next year,” he said.

“So, many people have spoken and not only politicians. The Church has spoken, too, against the misgovernance by the UPND [United Party for National Development]. Zambians have also spoken, but these people [UPND] can’t listen. The President [Hichilema] cannot listen to anyone and the only thing to do to a person or group who fails to listen is to kick them out. And Zambians know what to do next year.”

Kunda said he did not expect anything positive under the UPND especially after late founding father Dr Kenneth Kaunda expressed fears about electing Hichilema as president of Zambia.

“Zambians are regretting now. We have suffered enough under the UPND. We need to change. We cannot continue on this path of destruction by this inexperienced lot,” Kunda said.

He said Hichilema was not listening to the cries of many suffering Zambians and it was high time Zambians reflected deeply on the way he was governing them.

The warning by Dr Kaunda was enough reason to change leadership.

Kunda said Dr Kaunda had warned Zambians against electing and giving power to a leader who was selfish, uncaring, divisive and arrogant.

He said Zambians were finding it difficult to trust Hichilema after his failure to keep his promises of lowering the high cost of living, reducing the price of fuel and offloading cheap mealie meal and other basic needs.

“These are the people who promised to reduce fuel prices from K17 to K10, mealie meal from K120 to K50, to equip hospitals and clinics. But all that they have done is to triple the prices of everything I have talked about,” Kunda said.

He said Hichilema and the UPND found a working ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto, but now Zambians were divided on tribal and political lines.

“These [UPND] people found Zambia’s motto of ‘One Zambia One Nation’ intact, but what do we see today? A disintegrated society. A broken society. A divided people. A people that cannot work together or live together. This is where Hichilema has led us to and he has to be kicked out of government so that we start all over again,” Kunda said.

And Kunda has appealed to Hichilema to seriously reflect on Dr Kunda’s legacy.

“Our founding father, Dr Kaunda, did a lot to unite this country. He was selfless, visionary and wanted Zambia to be a better place for all. And this is what President Hichilema should reflect about.”

Kunda said Hichilema and his failed UPND government had destroyed Dr Kaunda’s legacy, the motto ‘One Zambia One Nation’.

“We need to vote them out come next year. Dr Kaunda warned us about Hichilema and it is time we reorganised and pushed him away from power,” Kunda said.
