ZIM links marketing to economic growth

By Adrian Mwanza

THE Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) says marketing plays an important role in the economic growth of the country.

Speaking during the launch of the 29th Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) annual general conference slated for May 27-29, the organisation’s president, Mwewa Besa, said marketing created platforms beyond the country’s borders.

Besa said marketing played a pivotal role in the growth of a country’s economy.

The forthcoming marketing conference would create an opportunity for individuals to network for a better Africa and the world.

“This event has seen the birth of great deals as it has created platforms beyond the borders of the country,” he said.

Besa said the conference was a good platform where business deals could be brokered easily, unlike in normal circumstances.

Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga, in a speech read on his behalf by permanent secretary Lillian Bwalya, urged ZIM to remain professional.

Mulenga said marketing without promotion was a missed opportunity, urging marketers to improve their tactics.

“Marketers are custodians of perceptions; therefore, they set the agenda in terms of promoting goods and services,” he said.

Mulenga said government was working tirelessly to ensure the country’s economy was on the right trajectory.

He said the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) had increased to 6.4 per cent while government targeted a one million tonnes copper production target.

“Government remains steadfast in ensuring the economy continues to grow on a positive trajectory,” Mulenga said.
