Maggots eating abused girl, 17, – police

By a Correspondent

POLICE in Chipangali District of the Eastern Province are looking for an unknown man who is alleged to have sexually abused a 17-year-old mentally challenged girl.

Family members who asked not to be named have said the girl was in pain as maggots were coming out of sceptic injuries in her private parts.

The relatives who held a meeting with Eastern Province commissioner of police Robertson Mweemba said the condition was strange.

Mweemba said the victim’s sister reported that the family only knew about her plight after she started producing a foul smell.

“This came to light last month while the victim was seated with her sister outside. A foul smell was coming out of the victim. This disturbed her before she checked her mentally challenged sister,” he said.

Mweemba said it was discovered that her private parts were producing maggots.

“When she was asked why the smell, the teenager victim told her sister that her private parts were itchy and when she checked, whitish looking insects were coming out of the girl’s female organ,” he said.

Mweemba said the woman then interrogated the victim, who revealed that someone had sexually abused her.

“It was at this time that the 17-year-old shared that an unknown male had had unlawful carnal knowledge of her in January. This prompted the sister to rush the victim to the clinic, who was later referred to Chipata Central Hospital,” he explained.

Mweemba said it was while she was receiving treatment that police officers were informed about the case.

“Police medical report form was issued. No arrest has yet been made. Investigations have been instituted to bring to book the suspect,” Mweemba said.
