THE Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) has received a K5 million donation from Wonderful Group of companies, the lead sponsor of the second edition of the Invest-Zambia International Conference (IZIC) 2026.
The conference is scheduled to take place from July 15 to 17 this year in Lusaka under the theme ‘Deepening capital flows and building mutually beneficial partnerships’.
Speaking during the handover, ZDA director general Albert Halwampa thanked Wonderful Group for its “unwavering” support and its commitment to driving industrial growth and job creation in Zambia.
“We deeply value the Wonderful Group’s contribution to Zambia’s investment landscape. Your ventures, such as the United Capital Fertiliser [UCF] project demonstrates your commitment to driving industrial growth and job creation in our country,” he said.
Halwampa said the conference aimed to attract US$5 billion in committed investments, with a focus on priority sectors such as mining, energy, manufacturing, agriculture and exports.
He urged investors with investment licences from ZDA to emulate the Wonderful Group.
Speaking at the same event, Wonderful Group chief executive officer Huang Yaochi said production of urea fertiliser would begin next month.
Huang said the phase two groundbreaking was worth US$1.4 billion of investment with raw locally-sourced materials.
“Then with our price we can compete with the international price and the cost of agriculture will be reduced. Everyone will be able to afford to buy the fertiliser,” Huang said.
He said the company would also set up a 300-megawatt solar plant at its industrial park for a stable power supply.
“All this we do, we try to show the investors, especially from China that Zambia is peaceful, safe and there is no risk in investing in it,” Huang said.
The IZIC 2026 is expected to attract 2,500 delegates, including 1,000 international and 1,500 local participants.
Government regards Wonderful Group’s support is a significant boost to Zambia’s investment landscape.
The conference is Zambia’s flagship investment promotion platform, hosted by ZDA to position the country as a preferred destination for trade and investment.
