THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday interrogated Mporokoso Member of Parliament and Tonse Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile, for questioning in connection with the investigation of road construction contracts worth K1.5 billion.
Mundubile arrived at the ACC headquarters in Lusaka’s central business district (CBD) next to Kulima Tower Bus Station in the morning and was ushered into the offices by investigation officers amid heavy presence of police deployed to maintain order.
After a lengthy interview, he was released but he did not address journalists on what information the officers had demanded from him.
Hundreds of street vendors and hawkers thronged the area near the ACC building and mobbed his convoy as he exited the CBD chanting, “We want change! We want change! Lelo lelo! Lelo lelo…!”
The ACC later said in a statement seen by The Mast later the contracts over which Mundubile is being investigated were awarded to companies linked to Mundubile, some projects in Northern, Eastern, Western and Central provinces between 2014 and 2020.
ACC acting head of corporate communications Chilufya Chisanga said the agency had recorded a warn and caution statement from Mundubile as part of the investigation.
Chisanga did not disclose the details of the contracts and the specific allegations against Mundubile saying investigations were ongoing.
“We cannot give out further details at this moment as investigations are still underway,” she said.
Mundubile has previously denied corruption allegations, stating that the contracts were awarded before he took office.
The investigation aims to establish the circumstances surrounding the awarding of the contracts and whether any laws had been broken.
