Zaloumis, 4 others in court for murder

CHISAMBA farmer Maria Zaloumis her, Nigerian partner Nathaniel Chinyereki Barthram and three others appeared for mention in the Kabwe magistrates court yesterday in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Enock Simfukwe Kasengele.
Magistrate Wamundila Liswaniso read the charge to the accused persons before adjourning the matter to October 6 when Zaloumis and her co- accused are scheduled to appear for another mention as the court awaits consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to commit the matter to the High Court for trial.
“You are all charged with one count of murder of 22-year-old Enock Simfukwe Kasengele on the 17th day of August, 2025, contrary to Section 200 Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia. You are expected to appear again for another mention on October 6, 2025 as we await consent from the office of the DPP,” Liswaniso said.
He ordered that Zaloumis and her four co-accused be taken to Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility where they were remanded in custody.
Maria’s mother, Mwangala Zaloumis, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson, attended the court session.
The Zambia Police Service on August 28 charged the five with murder following the death of Enock Simfukwe Kasengele, 22, of 16 Miles on the Kabwe-Lusaka Road.
The accused are Maria Francis Zeleni Zaloumis, known as the Zed Farmer, 40, of Wonani Farm, Nathaniel Chinyeremike Barthram, a 34-year-old Nigerian and Daniel Chiluwa, 40, a farm manager of Onani Farm No. 5 in Montana.
Others are Fortune Mwitangati, 23, of Nyambe Farm and Gift Daka, 25, also of Onani Farm.
The accused are being represented by lawyer Keith Katazo from legal aid.
