UPND goes for Mast editors
By Mast Reporter
THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has threatened to deal with editors of The Mast newspaper with unspecified actions.
In a post on the UPND Zambia Facebook page yesterday, the ruling party’s media shared the front page of The Mast newspaper’s Tuesday edition with the headline ‘WITCH-HUNT BEGINS’ accompanied with threats against the editors.
The admins of the UPND Zambia page stated, “At least mwakambako ati [at least you say] FUEL PRICES HAVE GONE DOWN for the month of July, not every day its negative news. We shall start calling out the Editors behind such malicious propaganda by their names. It is now becoming a political battle. We shall go forward name them one by one and what they have done in their lives. Its political now bwana Mast Editors.”
In the story that attracted the threats, The Mast reported that police had summoned former minister of health Professor Nkandu Luo to their headquarters for interrogations ignoring her pleas to be allowed to mourn her dead daughter whose body was lying in the mortuary.
“I am…ready to take doubting police officers to the mortuary and show them that my daughter is dead,” Prof Luo told the media as she was leaving the Zambia Police Headquarters in Ridgeway.
UPND Zambia did not state what crime The Mast had committed by reporting Prof Luo’s harassment by the police.
