PATRIOTIC Front (PF) chairperson for information and publicity Emmanuel Mwamba has trashed reports insinuating that former President Edgar Lungu is unwell.
Featuring on Diamond TV ‘s Breakfast Show yesterday, Mwamba said the former Head of State is out of the country for a medical review, as opposed to claims that he is unwell.
He said Lungu has not done his medical review in a long time, as he refuted claims that he is admitted to a hospital.
“I have just spoken to the president and you are aware that he just went for a medical review. He hasn’t been for his medical review since 2022. He attempted to go for his medical review in 2022 he was denied,” he said. “So, he was only allowed to go this last December. The president is very well, he is undergoing medical review, he just has scheduled medical review and medical checkups. He is not in hospital, he is not admitted to a hospital, he is at some private apartment and I think he has been undergoing his medical review,” he said.
Mwamba also said the “rumours by the UPND who don’t want us to discuss the health of their president are baseless, they are not founded and are just meant to alarm the country and to alarm our members.”
“The members and the nation can take it from me that the president went for a medical review and the medical review is going on very well and he must be, I think, concluding his medical review and he must be returning home. He is not admitted to a hospital, he is not admitted to any…”
When asked when the former President will be back in the country, Mwamba said “very, very soon.”
“When I spoke to him, he said he was doing medical tests the other two weeks and evaluation and he will be done with his medical review by next week and then we will inform the country when he will come back. And remember, he has never taken holiday since 2021. Also, this is working out like a holiday to him; medical review and holiday. And he should be back in the country as soon as he is comfortable,” he said. “The age difference between President Hakainde Hichilema and president Lungu is not far. So, are you also telling me that President Hakainde Hichilema it is time for him to rest? Is that what you are telling me? I think there is a two- or three-years difference between them. So, for me, I wouldn’t like someone’s political right, civil right to be taken away and force them into a retirement… he should not be forced into retirement.”
