A GRADE 11 pupil of Choma Day Secondary School in Southern Province has been raped and murdered by a known person at her parent’s house.
Police sources close to the investigation said the murder occurred on Tuesday after the girl’s male friend visited her and took advantage of her parent’s absence to rape and murder her.
“The girl was alone at home and a male friend known as Kelvin visited her and raped her before killing her. She was murdered at her parent’s house after she was sexually assaulted,” the police officer said before referring all queries to Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo.
Meanwhile, Namalongo says the deceased was discovered dead on Tuesday in the sitting room by her 12-year-old brother, who had just returned from church.
Namalongo said the boy found the door locked, while the keys were on the ground.
He said the boy opened the door and discovered his sister lying naked on the floor in the sitting room.
Namalongo said the boy alerted a police officer who lives in nearby Macha Road Township about the murder.
“Police officers rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased lying naked in the sitting room, with blood stains on the floor and on a pounding stick which was used to hit the girl on the back of the head. The pounding stick was found near the door. A ladies’ pant was also found few meters away from the body,” he said.
Namalongo said a physical examination of the body revealed a deep cut at the back of the head, bleeding from the nose, and semen on the private parts of the deceased.
“We have collected all the samples for forensic examination,” he said.
Preliminary investigations show that a male person identified only as Kelvin, whose other details were yet to be known, was seen near the scene wearing a blue work suit.
Namalongo said the suspect attempted to commit by drinking poison.
“It was established that the same individual by the name of Kelvin had been admitted to the Choma General Hospital after taking unknown chemicals in a suspected suicide attempt. He is under police guard, though the situation is dire,” he said.
He said officers who rushed to the hospital found blood stains and semen on the pair of trousers that the suspect was wearing.
“He [Kelvin] is currently in critical condition and unable to talk, and has been placed under police guard as the main suspect in the matter.
We have also collected the suspect’s trousers for forensic analysis, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at Choma General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination,” said Namalongo.
