Return PF then call for reconciliation, Chungu tells HH

By Tony Nkhoma

TRUE reconciliation in the country will only happen when President Hakainde Hichilema gives back the Patriotic Front (PF) to its rightful owners, former Luanshya Member Parliament Steve Chungu has said.

Chungu said in an interview with The Mast there will never be true reconciliation unless Hichilema immediately gives back PF to its legitimate owners.

“Let Hichilema and the State give the PF back to its original owners. Then we’ll see true reconciliation among families and across the country,” Chungu said

He expressed concern that Zambians are being sold empty promises of reconciliation.

“Hopefully one day it will happen. There are so many issues that affect our democracy. If there is true reconciliation, the President must show goodwill by returning the PF,” he said.

He challenged Hichilema to translate the message of reconciliation preached during the recent National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance, and Reconciliation into practical action.

Chungu criticised the United Party for National Development (UPND) government for what he described as ongoing injustice against opposition members.

“So many of our people are suffering in prisons today. So many court cases remain unresolved,” he said.

Chungu also called on the Registrar of Societies to act independently and restore the PF to its legitimate owners, free from political interference.

“Let the Registrar also be free from UPND interference so that we can live as one and bring back the love we once had in this country,” he said.

Chungu expressed concern over the growing division along tribal and regional lines under Hichilema’s administration.

“We need oneness. We need unity. Elections or governance should not divide us,” he said.

Chungu also urged the government to allow opposition parties to hold rallies freely without police intimidation, warning that citizens are now living in fear amid rampant abductions and political violence.

“Abductions are happening during the day, shared all over social media. Yet the government has not condemned such acts,” he said.

Chungu urged leaders to restore moral leadership and emphasised that no blood should be shed over politics.

He said Zambia is a Christian nation and that political disputes must never cost lives.

“Politics is short-term. Leaders come and go. We must understand we need each other for the future of those who come after us,” he said.

Chungu said the government must act now to restore trust and unity, or face accountability from Zambians in next year’s general elections.
