Earlier today, Maina Soko Medical Centre conducted a precautionary evacuation after the automatic smoke alarm system was triggered at 16:20 hours. The alarm detected smoke in the kitchen and the Renal Unit (Dialysis Centre), prompting immediate action by hospital staff.
A joint team of engineers and fire safety officers thoroughly investigated the situation and confirmed that the smoke originated from a changing room near the kitchen. Fortunately, no fire was found. Initial findings indicate the smoke may have been caused by someone smoking outside the building near a window in the changing room of Building Two.
Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Levy Muchemwa, Commandant of Maina Soko Medical Centre, commended the quick response, stating:
“The safety of our patients and staff is our utmost priority. The swift activation of our alarm system and the orderly evacuation highlight the effectiveness of our safety measures.”
All patients and staff were safely evacuated and returned to their respective wards without injury.
The hospital has since resumed normal operations and remains committed to maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
