Customer murders motorbike rider, steals bike

POLICE in Central Province have launched a manhunt for the people behind the murder of a 29-year-old motorbike rider in Chisamba District.
Central Province police chief Lemakani Chirwa has confirmed the murder of Trust Mwiinga, who was robbed of his motorbike and phone by a customer who had booked him in Chisamba on Thursday night.
In an interview with The Mast, Chirwa said Mwiinga of Ndailala Village, died at Liteta Hospital at 12:45 hours on Friday, after being attacked in the Chipwende area between 20:00 hours on Thursday and 02:00 hours on Friday.
“Mwiinga was booked from Daka Mine to Chipwende on a go-come trip at 20:00 hours on 25th September. Before leaving, he called his elder brother Grava Mwiinga, 37, also a rider, who cautioned him because it was late. When he did not return by midnight, the family tried calling, but his phone was unreachable,” Chirwa said.
He said Mwiinga’s family became aware of the situation when they received a phone call from Chisamba Clinic, informing them about the critical situation.
“At around 02:00 hours on 26th September, Chisamba Clinic called the family that Mwiinga was in critical condition and was being referred to Liteta Hospital,” he said.
Chirwa said medical staff told police that before losing his ability to speak, Mwiinga said he was attacked by the customer he was carrying, who beat him and stole his bike and mobile phone.
“He had sustained multiple cuts and swellings on the head from an unknown instrument. The body is in the Liteta Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem. Police officers visited the crime scene and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
Police have opened a case of aggravated robbery and murder.
