…Senior Chief Muchinda urges unity, delivery

SENIOR Chief Muchinda of the Lala-Swaka people of Serenje in Central Province has appealed to Zambians to put aside their political differences and focus on unity, healing and development now that the elections are over.
The traditional leader congratulated all the members of Parliament, councillors and other leaders elected across party lines in the August 13 elections.
In a statement, Senior Chief Muchinda said the end of campaigns should mark the beginning of service delivery for all citizens.
“Elections naturally come with different views and choices. But once the people have voted, we must remember that we are still one nation. In matters of development, there are no winners or losers,” he said.
Senior Chief Muchinda urged public office holders to serve everyone fairly, including those who did not vote for their political party, and to ensure government programmes reached rural and marginalised areas.
He commended ongoing development programmes.
Senior Chief Muchinda suggested that Constituency Development Fund (CDF) be managed with transparency and fairness, with emphasis on projects that had direct impact on communities such as schools, clinics, roads, clean water, sanitation, skills training and support for local businesses.
He stressed the need for government to work closely with traditional leaders and communities when setting development priorities for CDF and other resources to address the local needs.
“Political contests are temporary, but the nation endures. Our duty now is to reconcile, collaborate and make sure public resources improve lives on the ground,” Senior Chief Muchinda said.
He said traditional leaders should remain non-partisan and continue providing guidance to all subjects while partnering with government and other stakeholders to drive development.
The chief challenged the newly elected leadership to lead with humility, accountability and inclusivity, and urged Zambians to prioritise the national interest.
“This is the time for unity, reconciliation and hard work. Let us put Zambia first so that development benefits every community. One Zambia, One Nation,” he said.
