TIZ raises red flags on 16 constituencies

By Adrian Mwanza

TRANSPARENCY International Zambia (TIZ) has raised serious concerns about the electoral process in 16 constituencies out of the 117 constituencies assessed.

TIZ indicated that it flagged the 16 constituencies out of 117 due to unsealed ballot papers delivered to the totalling centres.

“Although the final tabulations indicate no differences between the results announced by ECZ and those collected by TI-Z monitors, our analysis has flagged 16 out of the 117 constituencies assessed due to unsealed ballot papers delivered to the totalling centres, failure or delay to issue Gen 20 forms, miscalculations of candidates’ votes, failure to announce presidential results and sending of Gen 20 forms to Lusaka before announcing results at totalling centres,” TIZ noted.

It assessed 117 constituency presidential election results out of the 221 results announced by the ECZ.

“Our assessment generated a 84.7 per cent Integrity Index due to observed disparities and process incidents related to the counting of results at polling stations and totalling centres in these constituencies,” the statement said.

It said the constituencies that were affected were Kasenegwa, Roma, Siavonga, Chadiza East, Chembe, Chisamba, Dag Hammerskjoeld, Kabushi, Kasama Central and Ndola Central.

Others are Chifubu, Mongu Central, Mufulira, Luanshya, Kabwe Central and Chirundu Constituency.  ·
