…He’s the right leader to finish the job – Chinkuli

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is the only leader in this election with a clear and focused vision for the nation, according to Zambia’s first indigenous Army Commander General Kingsley Chinkuli.
In an interview, General Chinkuli noted that President Hichilema took over a severely distressed economy in 2021, inheriting a nation whose treasury had been completely depleted.
He says despite the difficulties the country had faced, President Hichilema and the UPND government had managed to stir the country in the right direction.
“From a basket case, now Zambia is back on its growth trajectory: with one of the best performing currency in the world, inflation rate that was at almost 23 per cent in 2021 is now down to a single digit,” Gen Chinkuli said.
He however notes that despite the positive achievements of the New Dawn administration, there were still outstanding issues that the government needed to attend to.
“Our people are still affected by the high cost of living, but Zambia our country is much safer under the leadership of President Hichilema,” Gen Chinkuli said.
He hailed President Hichilema for restoring peace in markets and busy stations.
“Yet if you review the President’s performance over the past five years, it is evident that the economy has been restored to a stable path. Zambia has returned to a growth trajectory despite the challenges of COVID‑19, debt default and drought,” Gen Chinkuli said said.
He added that the UPND manifesto launched last week on Friday clearly outlines President Hichilema’s vision and that of his administration.
“From my perspective, he is the best person to complete the work ahead,” Gen Chinkuli said.
Zambia goes to the polls on August 13 2026.
