PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to uphold peace, unity and dialogue as the country marks Africa Freedom Day.
In a message to the nation, Hichilema said the day honours the sacrifices of Africa’s founding leaders who fought for Pan-Africanism, freedom and solidarity.
“The values that guided Africa’s liberation struggle, dialogue, mutual respect, peace, hard work and service to the common good must continue to guide us today,” he said.
With elections approaching, Hichilema urged citizens to reject violence, hate speech and lawlessness.
“No political ambition is greater than the peace and stability of our nation and continent,” he said.
Hichilema said peace was a precious inheritance that Zambians should safeguard for future generations.
He urged Zambians to work together to build a peaceful, united and prosperous Zambia and Africa.
“Happy Africa Freedom Day. May God bless the Republic of Zambia and may He bless Africa,” he said.
