Back one strong candidate, Kambwili urges opposition

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) member Chishimba Kambwili says the opposition must unite behind a single presidential candidate capable of defeating the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in the August 13 general elections.
Kambwili said the situation in the country was alarming, with aspirants simply standing up and paying the K100, 000 nomination fee without any serious political grounding.
“And as we go forward, there is need to support a candidate that will help us win an election and not what was happening at the moment,” he said.
Kambwili said that was why he had gone quiet because the country’s political landscape had descended into drama and jokes.
Kambwili said people had turned politics into child’s play this year, which he described as unfortunate.
He said these developments had forced him to step back and assess the situation, which he found increasingly confusing.
Kambwili said the opposition needed to rally behind a single candidate if it is to stand any chance of defeating the UPND government.
“We have to work together and not what is going on at the moment were someone can just wake up and pay for nomination fees even when they know that they can’t win,” he said.
