NGOCC demands justice for woman assaulted at Zamfresh

THE Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has condemned the brutal assault of a Zambian woman by her two Chinese supervisors at Zamfresh, a Lusaka-based Chinese-run company.
A disturbing video circulating on social media showing the woman being violently subdued and assaulted by two Chinese men has sparked widespread public outrage.
In a statement issued yesterday, NGOCC executive director Anne Anamela demanded swift legal action against the perpetrators.
Anamela said the act was an affront to women’s rights and a stain on Zambia’s national conscience.
“No Zambian citizen, least of all, a woman, should ever be subjected to such dehumanising treatment within our borders,” she said.
Anamela said there was a need to ensure accountability from all employers, including foreign nationals operating in the country.
“Anyone living, working, or conducting business in Zambia is strictly bound by Zambian law. They need to be held accountable. We shall not tolerate such impunity,” Anamela said.
She urged law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and transparently by thoroughly investigating the matter and prosecuting those responsible to the full extent of the law.
“There is no place for violence against women in Zambia,” she said.
Anamela called for firm action against the perpetrators and warned that any attempt to shield those responsible would not be tolerated in Zambia.
