Imboela condemns police call-out

By Charles Musonda

MY CALL-OUT to appear before the Zambia Police Service at Force Headquarters on Monday for unknown reasons is political intimidation aimed at disturbing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) further, says the opposition party’s president Saboi Imboela.

Police public relations officer Geoffrey Chilabi confirmed with The Mast that officers visited Imboela’s home to serve her with a call-out notice on Wednesday, without disclosing details.

“This action forms part of the ongoing investigations. Further details will be shared in due course,” Chilabi said.

When contacted Imboela said the police had not told her why she was summoned.

She described the police action as political intimidation aimed at weakening her party, which plans to hold its general conference in the next few months.

Imboela accused the police of working under instructions from politicians.

“…and by the way it is very interesting to know that my secretary general was in cells for two weeks. The President consistently says that nobody should be in cells for more than 48 hours, but he has spent one week in police cells and another one week in Chimbokaila and the following day they summon me,” she said.

She said she would report to Force Headquarters on Monday at 10 hours.

“I am a law-abiding citizen and I will report to the police on Monday at 10 hours. My secretary general has got nothing to do with that. The whole thing about the President being put in a coffin and everything, my secretary general has got nothing to do with that. And the police even know that, it is about intimidation,” Imboela said.
