Nevers, Chitika face contempt of court

TWO members of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) have taken former party president Dr Nevers Mumba and his secretary general Elizabeth Chitika to the Lusaka High Court for contempt of court.
The latest dispute is in connection with the Dr Mumba-led faction holding a convention despite a court injunction restraining any part from doing so.
The petitioners, led by Frank Bowa and Edith Matakala have applied for leave for an order of committal for contempt of court proceedings.
According to court documents filed in the Lusaka High Court and seen by The Mast, Bowa and Matakala submitted that Dr Mumba and Chitika deliberately interfered and disrespected the sanctity of the ongoing court proceedings, by holding a party convention, whilst the matter was still in court.
The two petitioners argued that there was an active application on record restraining the holding of any party convention before the case was resolved to its conclusion.
The Dr Mumba and Chitika have been accused of deliberately interfering and disrespecting the sanctity of the ongoing proceedings by changing the name of the registered political party, with full knowledge of an active case before court.
