I’M NOT BITTER
– Fired Muchima accepts fate as he licks wounds
By Adrian Mwanza
FORMER health minister Dr Elijah Muchima says he is not a bitter person after being fired by President Hakainde Hichilema.
In an interview with The Mast, Dr Muchima said he was happy to be given an opportunity to serve for five years in Hichilema’s Cabinet.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity of serving as a Cabinet minister and I will continue supporting the head of state despite him relieving me of my duties,” he said.
On Wednesday, Hichilema fired Dr Muchima and former minister of commerce and industry Elias Mubanga without giving reasons.
Dr Muchima said he was not disappointed and would continue striving to ensure the UPND returned power in August.
When asked on his next move, Dr Muchima said now was time for uniting the party and not dwelling on confusion.
“What I can tell you is I will continue supporting the head of state and the party at large and, honestly, do not harbour any ill feelings,” he said.
Dr Muchima said he was not the first person to be dropped and that the UPND actually had people that were not appointed but continued to be loyal party members.
He said it would be unfair for him to jump ship just because he had been fired.
His loyalty to the party remained strong.
