Daughter reports father for defilement

By a Correspondent

A 19-year-old girl of Nakonde District in Northern Province has gathered courage and reported her biological father to the police for sexually abusing her at the age of 14.

The alleged offence happened in 2021.

Police in Nakonde said Abuid Sipanje, 43, was arrested for an alleged incest related crime that happened in August 2021, which was only reported this year.

Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Denis Moola confirmed the incident, which was reported to the police on September 26, 2025, by the victim, now aged 19.

Moola said the alleged offence was committed when the girl was 14 when Sipanje returned home from a drinking spree.

“Sipanje asked his daughter to escort him somewhere to get money for relish. According to the report, her father just returned from drinking. While on the way, he told her that a witch doctor advised him to sleep with her in order to get rich,” Moola said.

He explained that Sipanje dragged the victim into an unfinished house where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her by force.

Moola said after the incident, Sipanje warned his daughter not to tell anyone.

However, she informed her mother immediately and later shared with a relative.

“We are told that Sipanje admitted to the offence, but the family chose not to report to the police at the time, saying he was remorseful. She was later sent to live with her grandmother in another district, where she continued her education. But got pregnant by another man

in May this year and was brought back to Nakonde,” he said.

Moola said it was during this period that she decided to report her case to the police, leading to the arrest of her 43-year-old father.

“It was during this period, now five months pregnant, that the emotional trauma of what she had experienced reportedly started whenever she set her eyes on her father. She decided to report the matter to police. A docket of case has been opened and the matter is being investigated,” he said.

In another case, Moola said a 67-year-old woman and her 29-year-old daughter were brutally murdered in Mafwa village, in Chief Waitwika’s area in the district, bringing the number of murder cases in the district to three over a period of 48 hours.

He identified the victims as Rosemary Nalungwe and her daughter, Royda Nalwimba, who were reported missing last Thursday after they went into the bush to prepare their field for farming. Nalungwe and Nalwimba never returned home.

Moola said Wilson Silwimba, 72, the father and husband of the victims, confirmed that the two left home around 07:00 hours, but when they failed to return, villagers organised a search on Friday.

“Their lifeless bodies were found in the bush around 14:00 hours, and police were informed later that evening. Officers visited the scene and found Nalungwe body lying in a pool of blood, facing down and covered with a blanket. She had a deep cut on the right side of the neck and a broken arm. The body of Nalwimba was discovered about 50 meters away, also lying in a pool of blood and covered with twigs. She had two deep cuts on her neck, and parts of her skin appeared burnt from sun exposure,” he said.

Moola said an axe could have been used in the violent killing of Nalungwe and Nalwimba.
