IT’S LANDSLIDE REJECTION

…Landslide victory has backfired on ‘outgoing’ HH, UPND, says Changala

  • There’s a total demise of constitutional democracy in the country

  • The Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary are a co-triangle in destroying democracy.

By Mast Reporter

ZAMBIANS have shown President Hakainde Hichilema that they are no longer interested in his lies, governance activist Brebner Changala has said.

Changala described Hichilema as an “outgoing president”.

He expressed shock that Hichilema’s landslide victory had in a short time of four years turned into landslide rejection, with Zambians expressing their eagerness to show him the door next year.

“There’s a total demise of constitutional democracy in the country. The Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary are a co-triangle in destroying the democracy of the country. What we are seeing now in the country is evil,” Changala said.

He was speaking when he featured on EMV Podcast.

Changala said was being run by a triangle of evil – Legislature, Executive and Judiciary.

He said since Hichilema took over power four years ago, corruption, the rule of law and threats against human rights had more than doubled compared to how the situation was before 2021.

He said the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration had disobeyed the backbone upon which it was voted into power.

“They came to power on the backbone of change. They came to power on the backbone of the restoration of the rule of law. And on the basis of that, one looking at the State of the nation at that time under the Patriotic Front, many people came on board to support the UPND. Hence, the New Dawn,” Changala said.

“So the goodwill by the people of Zambia was to start afresh, reset the baton. And many of us who came on board, we didn’t come on board with a blank check,” he said.

Changala said Zambians thought Hichilema would embark on massive police reforms, massive judicial reforms, massive civil service reforms, and indeed, parastatal reforms but what they had seen was the opposite.

“We needed to start afresh, a new dawn, to build a just, equal and free society in which all men and women will aspire in their various fields and endeavour and achieve their dreams and their goals,” he said.

Changala said the massive celebrations the UPND received after the elections in 2021 had now turned into massive rejection.

“Hichilema said his administration would not subject anybody to the misery and human rights abuses that he had gone through. Little did we know, just in the early days of his administration, that he had a different political agenda. Different from what we aspired, totally different from our shared values and goals,” Changala said.

Changala said Hichilema has a completely different mission, which was to embark on retribution against his political rivals.

He said Hichilema and the UPND were mischievous, hence their attempt and rush to enact evil laws.

“Even state institutions and wings of government like the Judiciary and Parliament, the Electoral Commission of Zambia, are now participating in destroying the democracy of the country. What has happened to the Patriotic Front vis-a-vis the [Chief] Registrar of Societies is a criminal act, which is State sponsored,” Changala said.

He was disappointed that the very men and women who had sworn to protect and defend the Constitution were the ones publicly assaulting it.

Changala, who referred to Hichilema s “outgoing president” throughout the interview, said the head of state was creating laws aimed at withdrawing people’s rights, freedoms and liberties, as well as the right to communicate.
