Katete DC nabbed for alleged incest
POLICE in Chipata have arrested Katete District Commissioner Raphael Phiri for allegedly defiling his granddaughter.
Phiri, 65, was apprehended in Chipata yesterday following a report filed at Katete Police Station.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement yesterday Phiri was in custody and was yet to be formally charged for the offence of incest.
“The Zambia Police Service reiterates its commitment to ensuring that justice is served in all matters, regardless of one’s status or position in society. We further urge members of the public to remain calm as the due process of the law takes its course,” Hamoonga said
He said the suspect was expected to appear in court soon.
Hamoonga committed to providing further details as the investigation continued.
“Be informed that the said suspect has been apprehended today, August 24, 2025, in Chipata. He is currently detained at Chipata Central Police Station. The suspect is yet to be formally charged for the offence of incest and will appear in court soon,” Hamoonga said.
