Hamoonga to testify in cattle fraud case
By Esther Chisola
POLICE spokesperson Rae Hamoonga is on July 28 expected to appear before a Lusaka magistrates court to testify in a case in which he was allegedly swindled of K159,000 cash by a United Party for National Development (UPND) cadre Cryford Chuumba.
Chuumba is alleged to have falsely pretended to have 73 cattle for sale when in fact not.
He is facing one count of obtaining money by false pretence.
It is alleged that between December 3, 2024 and December 8, 2024, in Lusaka, jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown, with intent to defraud, Chuumba did obtain K159, 550.00 cash from Hamoonga by falsely pretending he had 73 cattle for sale when in fact not.
When the case came up for continued trial before magistrate Amy Masoja yesterday, the State informed the court that it was ready to proceed with one witness who is the complaint.
However, the defence informed the court that it was not ready because Chuumba intended to hire a different lawyer from the Legal Aid Board to represent him.
The case comes up on July 28 for continued trial.
