Zambia wins baseball silver, earns continental spot

By Cecilia Nayame

THE Zambia national baseball team yesterday walked away with the silver medal after winning second position at the Southern Regional Championship in Lesotho.

The result has also earned the team a place at the 2025 Southern Africa Regional Baseball5 Championship to be held later this year.

It was all glory for team Zambia as they did not just walk out with a silver medal and also earned a place at the continental showpiece. Rita Natanjie was named the most valuable player of the tournament.

Natanjie walked away with an award.

South Africa emerged as overall winners while hosts Lesotho finished third.

To reach the finals, Zambia recorded three wins and two losses respectively during the three-day tournament.

They beat Lesotho 2-0 in the opening and third match of day one of the tournament to record two straight wins last Friday in Maseru.

The team suffered a set back when they lost to South Africa 2-0 in their second match to conclude the day with two wins and a loss.

In Saturday’s matches, the team recorded another win to set a date with South Africa in the finals.

The matches were being played on a round robin.

The tournament ended yesterday.
