Police arrest Mung’andu for incest with daughter

POLICE in Mumbwa in Central Province have arrested a 32 -year-old man for allegedly molesting his 13-year-old daughter at their home in Shanobe village, Shakumbila area.
Central Province police commanding officer Lemekani Chirwa confirmed the arrest to The Mast and said the suspect, Laston Mung’andu, is detained at Mumbwa Police Station.
“We received the report on September 2 at 17:30 hours from the child’s aunt. The suspect was apprehended shortly after and investigations are ongoing,” Chirwa said.
According to police, the incident occurred around 01:00 hours on August 30, 2026. The girl told her aunt that while she was asleep, her father entered her bedroom, sexually molested her and threatened to kill her if she screamed or told anyone.
The child was taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment.
“The girl had been living with her father after her parents separated. Days before the incident, the suspect’s wife left the home following a disagreement, leaving the father and daughter alone,” Chirwa said.
“On August 29, the suspect told the child to come and sleep at his house instead of at her grandparents’. The next morning she told her aunt, who reported the matter to police,” he said.
Chirwa appealed to members of the public to report cases of child abuse early.
