Hawker parades wife’s G-strings in divorce case

A 57-YEAR-OLD hawker of Lusaka’s Garden Park has produced his wife’s favourite two G-strings, two hip-high miniskirts and a pair of bum shorts, which he alleges she uses during illicit encounters with her boyfriend, a former younger tenant.
This is in a case in which Kennedy Njovu has sued Catherine Kasenuka, 44, for divorce, alleging that he is tired of his wife’s infidelity with younger men, especially their former tenants.
Njovu told Senior Matero Local Court magistrate Harriet Mulenga that he was surprised that Kasenuka had never worn the thongs for him to arouse his ‘bedroom appetite’ during their 23 years of marriage, despite the couple having four children.
He said he had ‘impeccable proof’ that Kasenuka and their former married tenant were in a sexual relationship, citing his wife’s suspicious closeness to the man.
Njovu said the tenant later decided to move out of their house and that Kasenuka was happy because she was not on talking terms with the tenant’s wife.
Njovu said his wife told him it was good that the couple was moving because they liked gossiping, but he that she was actually very close to the man.
“When he was about to shift, I found him telling my wife from very close range that although he was shifting, he would still be coming back to see her and their bodies were even rubbing against each other,” Njovu said.
He said the man, who had told them he was moving to Shantumbu, returned to the house one Sunday night but turned around and left after seeing him.
“And for sure on Sunday night, the man who said he had shifted to Shantumbu came and when he saw me, he pretended to be pressing his phone and left,” Njovu said.
He told the court that Kasenuka herself had informed him that the former tenant was in the habit of calling her at night to propose love to her.
In response, Njovu said he asked Kasenuka to delete the tenant’s telephone number in his presence, but she refused.
Njovu also complained that his wife sometimes joined him in the bedroom late around midnight, especially during power blackouts when he was already fast asleep.
He said whenever she came to bed, she had been cleaning her private parts.
Njovu also testified that Kasenuka had started denying him conjugal rights by sleeping with her legs crossed.
He said she was also in the habit of telling him that he was too old for her and that she did not care if he died because she would mourn briefly and forget about him.
In her defence, Kasenuka did not put up much cross-examination, but accused Njovu of being a terrible liar who had cooked up convincing narratives.
She told the court that the miniskirts Njovu produced had been left behind by their daughter who was now married, while the G-strings had come from her younger sister’s shop.
Relatives of both Njovu and Kasenuka told the court that the marriage had broken down irretrievably.
The matter was adjourned to August 25, 2026, pending some court formalities.
