UPND cadres will answer for violence, warns Msoni

By George Zulu

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) cadres fomenting violence ahead of the August 13 general election will one day answer for their actions, All People’s Congress (APC) president Nason Msoni has warned.

In an interview, Msoni said Zambians were documenting the lawlessness and vowed that no one would be shielded from prosecution should there be a change of government on August 13, 2026.

He branded the cadres criminals.

“First, let us condemn violence in the strongest terms. And the perpetrators, bankrolling violence, must be cautioned and warned that you will be extradited to the Hague,” Msoni said.

He also warned those bankrolling criminality would be held accountable and risked being extradited to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Msoni wondered why the UPND wanted to create anarchy in the nation ahead of the elections.

He said what happened in Chawama, Monze, Mazabuka, Chavuma, Choma and other parts of the country should be condemned by all well-meaning Zambians.

Msoni said governments resorted to violence only when they sense a loss in popularity.

Msoni said a ruling government could only use violence where it notes losing popularity.

“Those who bear the highest responsibility will be held accountable for the crimes being committed by their followers ahead of the 13th August 2026 general elections,” he said.

Msoni also urged the international community to take keen interest in the unraveling lawlessness and violence being perpetuated by the ruling party and encouraged by their leaders.

“And we hate to see any Zambian, any Zambian citizen being dragged to the Hague because he failed to listen, he failed to heed to counsel. Our counsel to those who are bankrolling violence is that you bear the highest responsibility and you be held to account. We are aware of your activities. The world is watching,” he said.

Msoni called for the strongest condemnation of political violence.
