THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a United Party for National Development (UPND) official for corrupt practices involving K200 000.
Hamanyanga Hamanyanga, 32, of Kishitu Compound, was arrested on Friday.
In a statement issued yesterday, ACC acting head of communications Chilufya Chisanga said Hamanyanga, a member of the Mulobezi Ward Development Committee (WDC), was charged with one count of failure to disclose interest when he awarded his brother’s company an empowerment loan worth K200 000 contrary to Paragraph 5 of the Schedule to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Act No. 11 of 2018.
“Investigations revealed that between 1st January 2024 and 31st January 2024, Hamanyanga, while serving on the Constituency Development Fund Committee at Mulobezi Town Council, failed to disclose his interest in a loan empowerment application involving his brother’s company, Hartulu Hamanyanga Transport and General Dealers,” he said.
Chisanga said instead of declaring interest, Hamanyanga participated in the deliberations that recommended awarding his brother’s company the empowerment loan.
“He further participated in the discussion, and recommendation for the award of an empowerment loan amounting to K200,000.00 to the said company,” Chisanga said.
She warned individuals entrusted with the administration of public resources to refrain from abusing resources meant to benefit the Zambians.
“The Commission will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found engaging in corrupt practices to the full extent of the law. The suspect was released on bond and will appear in court soon,” he said.
