POLICE in Kabwe have arrested three men for allegedly insulting President Hakainde Hichilema during his visit to the town on Thursday, where he reopened Mulungushi Textiles.
The three were picked up by officers from the presidential motorcade after they were heard insulting the Head of State as the convoy passed through town.
The suspects are currently detained at Kabwe Central Police Station.
Central Province Police Commissioner Lemekani Chirwa confirmed the arrests in an interview with The Mast yesterday.
He identified the suspects as Lincoln Bwalya, 39, Robert Mwamba, 30, and Aaron Simwanza, 26, all of Makululu compound in Kabwe District.
“On Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 16:00 hours, Kabwe Central Police Station received a report of use of insulting language towards occupants of the presidential motorcade from Vincent Changulukwa, 43, of Lusaka, an officer from the Office of the President, Special Division.
“Brief facts of the matter are that on April 16, 2026 at around 15:30 hours, the presidential motorcade carrying the Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema, and other senior government officials was passing along Great North Road from Mulungushi Textiles to Stephen Lwisha when the three suspects hurled insults at the occupants in the motorcade. Mr Changulukwa and others who heard the accused persons insulting were at Phoenix Night Club at that particular time when they overheard the three uttering the insults,” he said.
Chirwa said officers apprehended the suspects and took them to Kabwe Central Police Station, where a complaint was lodged and the three were detained for use of insulting language.
He said a case docket was opened.
“The accused were arrested and charged for subject offence. The trio will appear in court soon,” Chirwa said.
He warned members of the public that police in Central Province would not condone any behaviour disrespectful to government leaders.
Chirwa warned that those found guilty would face the full wrath of the law.
