Stop blaming PF for failures, Saboi tells UPND

By Ludia Ngwadzai

NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) president Saboi Imboela has accused the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration of conveniently hiding behind the failures of the Patriotic Front (PF) as an excuse for its own shortcomings.

Imboela challenged the UPND administration to let its record speak for itself, arguing that the time had come for the government to demonstrate tangible development delivered to ordinary Zambians rather than continuing to point fingers at the previous regime.

“We strongly condemn and join the general populace demanding for new leaders,” Imboela said.

In a statement issued yesterday, Imboela expressed worry about the UPND government’s failure to deliver on its promises to the people of Zambia.

Imboela highlighted the struggles of miners on the Copperbelt and jobless youths and women, saying the young people deserved opportunities and not despair.

Imboela demanded that the UPND government must deliver on its commitments to improve roads, agriculture, tourism, and create jobs.

She also described as a national shame, the state of water supply and sanitation at the University of Zambia (UNZA) and townships such as Kanyama, Chibolya and Makululu in Kabwe.

“Poor roads in many districts are a worrisome issue and we cannot keep quiet when you have terribly failed, this is of great concern.Water and good sanitation is a basic human right, yet the government is failing to provide to the people,” Imboela said.

She acknowledged the PF’s achievements in infrastructure development and agriculture but stressed that it was time to move forward.

“The issue is UPND’s failure to build on those gains.  It is time to move forward, not dwell on the past mistakes of PF. To the UPND government, we say, stop complaining about PF and focus on delivering.  You have got a few months left, show us roads, show us jobs, show us development not just talking,”Imboela said.

She said the UPND should expect a rude shock from the people of Zambia when it is voted out.

“People of Zambia are waiting and come August expect a rude shock when they vote you out,” Imboela said.
