FOOTBALL Icon Kalusha Bwalya says he will not participate in next month’s Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) elective annual general meeting (AGM).
Speaking to journalists through his spokesperson Nkweto Tembwe , Bwalya said the playing field has not been level for him to contest the FAZ presidency.
In 2020 , Bwalya was barred from contesting after the FAZ Ethics Committee declared him ineligible.
“ I am filled with hope and determination as a passionate advocate for Zambian football. After much reflection, I have made the decision not to participate in the 2025 FAZ elections.
“Our initial intention to run was inspired by a vision to address the challenges facing Zambian football—issues that have hindered our progress and success. We engaged with global partners eager to invest in our football, yet they, like many Zambians, have become disheartened by a system that has strayed from its purpose,” said Bwalya.
He added that he will continue to support Zambian football despite not running as FAZ President.
“To the Football family I urge you to demand the leadership that embodies our game, the spirit of fair game. Football is about unity, joy and love and together we can reclaim our pride and restore Zambian football to its rightful place and the continental stage, “he said
“Every candidate that wants to run, we believe he wants to better Zambian football and for over 30 years Kalusha has supported Zambian football and the support for football has never stopped, he just left Football House and the support will be Zambian football, he focuses more on football than individuals and the support for Zambian football is not shaken and it will always be there.”
