MUTAPA RUES MISSED CHANCES
…. Power Dynamos lacked killer instinct in crucial CAF victory of Rivers United FC
By Adrian Mwanza
POWER Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa says his side was wasteful in front of goal and lacked confidence despite recording a vital 1-0 away victory over Nigeria’s Rivers United in a Group A CAF Champions League match played on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Mutapa said Power Dynamos, locally known as Aba Yellow, created numerous scoring opportunities but failed to convert most of them.
He said he had urged his players to take responsibility in front of goal, noting that while the team was spectacular in chance creation, it was not clinical in finishing.
“This is a team that creates many chances and we knew coming here was a tough game, but we did not allow Rivers to come at us,” Mutapa said.
The Power coach described the win as a major morale booster, adding that it would motivate his players to push for another victory in the remaining fixtures.
He emphasised that securing the three points was crucial as it moved his side closer to the teams occupying first and second place in Group A.
Mutapa also admitted that the last 15 minutes of the match were a nightmare for his players, saying they needed to improve their confidence, especially as reigning Zambian champions.
He said Power Dynamos have two matches remaining and the target was to collect maximum points to stand a chance of qualifying for the next stage of the competition.
Power Dynamos beat Rivers United 1-0 away in Uyo in their Group A CAF Champions League fixture.
Meanwhile, Ndola outfit Zesco United’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage of the CAF Confederation Cup were dealt a severe blow after they lost 1-0 to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs in a Group D encounter.
