EIGHT men accused of murdering a fuel attendant five months ago in Lusaka appeared before the Lusaka magistrates’ court yesterday.
The eight are Marriot Lungu, Moses Zulu, Richard Lungu, Given Banda, Bornface Mwansa, Rabson Lungu, Clifford Musanda and Peter Daka.
When they appeared before the court, the accused were taken back into custody after being informed that their indictment was not before court.
They are all facing one count of murder but are to appear in court soon for an explanation of the charge and committal to the High Court.
Five months ago, at Rubis Filling Station in Kalingalinga, Lusaka, became a crime scene after a brutal aggravated robbery left one attendant dead and another in a critical condition.
The murder and robbery were reported by David Phiri, 28, a station manager.
Preliminary investigations then indicated that two fuel attendants, Sibeso Akaliwa, and Mapalo Mwelwa, who had started their shift on Tuesday, July 15, were ambushed by an unknown number of criminals.
The assailants, who were armed with unidentified weapons, violently attacked the attendants, inflicting severe head injuries before killing Sibeso.
Sibeso was pronounced dead upon arrival at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital, while Mwelwa remained in a critical condition at the same hospital, battling for his life with multiple head injuries.
