DU urges strict scrutiny of presidential aspirants

By Tony Nkhoma

DEMOCRATIC Union (DU) president Ackim Njovu has challenged Zambians to seriously scrutinise their leaders before casting their vote ahead of next year’s general elections.

Speaking when he featured on Capital FM’s special programme on Tuesday, Njovu said Zambians should assess all those who wanted to become presidents next year.

He warned that popularity or wealth should not be the basis for voting one into office.

“It is our responsibility to assess leaders. Don’t look at maybe the popularity or maybe if those people are wealthy and you decide to vote for them,” Njovu said.

He said the genuineness of leaders should remain critical in the 2026 elections if the country was to develop.

“Ensure you select leaders who really mean well for the country. That’s what will be very important in 2026,” Njovu said

He said the country needed serious prayers to overcome the current social and economic challenges it was facing, which needed re-dedication to God through prayer.

Njovu urged Zambians to develop the culture of loving and taking care of one another in the middle of the economic challenges the country was facing.

“Please, take care of each other. Let’s continue to pray for this country. But please, be reminded that it is our responsibility to develop this country,” he said.

Njovu said no one would develop the country other than Zambians themselves.
