FDD backs amendments committee boycotts

THE Forum For Democracy and Development ( FDD) has applauded Eastern Province chiefs, the Non-Governmental Gender Coordinating Council (NGOCC) and Caritas-Zambia for shunning submitting to the illegal Constitutional Technical Committee.
FDD spokesperson Anthony Chibuye said his party was in full solidarity with all well-meaning Zambians, chiefs, NGOs and like-minded people in defence of the Constitution.
Chibuye noted it was the desire of President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND) to manipulate the Constitution using their compromised allies.
“As Zambians we have a duty to ensure that the manovenuers by the UPND and Hichilema to sabotage our Constitution for their political power must be obliterated. As Zambians we must know that Hichilema knows from the bottom of his heart that Zambians have detested and rejected his leadership. They have rejected his failed leadership,” Chibuye said.
He said Zambians knew that the only achievement Hichilema and UPND had achieved was to destroy State institutions such as the Judiciary, the police, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) , Attorney General’s Chambers, National Prosecution Authority and many others where full-time UPND cadres were running the key functions.
“Hichilema has used these institutions to run a log campaign against corruption using tribalism, fighting the Patriotic Front (PF) and those opposed to his failed leadership. His hidden agenda to perpetuate himself in power using illegal means are now laid bare for all to see,” he said.
“And we challenge the President that if at all he has any dignity or morals in him, let him know that his shameful campaign to change the Constitution stands totally rejected and he should immediately abandon it.”
The nation cannot afford to focus on irrelevant and self-centred Constitution reforms at the last hour.
“Let him [HIchilema] use the money he is paying those cadres of his who are sitting on this illegal committee to support the people of Kabushi, Chipulukusu, Misisi Compound and Kamitondo township who are facing the realities of his failed economic policies,” Chibuye said.
