‘Cyber laws HH’s weapons against opponents’

 By Tony Nkhoma

THE Cyber Crimes Act and Cyber Security Act are President Hakainde Hichilema’s personal laws because they are applied selectively and only target his political opponents, the Green Party (GP) has said.

GP president Peter Sinkamba said there was no law that was only applied to opposition political party members leaving ruling party members committing similar offences.

Peter Sinkamba

In an interview with The Mast, Sinkamba expressed worry that despite the United Party for National Development (UPND) members and praise singers committing similar and even more serious offences, the Hichilema-controlled Zambia Police Service had given them a blind eye.

He said it was worrying to have a leader who romanticised wrong-doing by his members while using the cyber laws to persecute opposition members.

“We thought when the President made those commitments at his inauguration, he really meant that he was going to end cadreism and that he was going to deal firmly with any abuse of position by anyone who is in government, but no action,” Sinkamba said.

He challenged Hichilema to openly come out in the open on the matters of tribalism and political abductions.

“But it is not happening. And we are so worried. So we want to challenge the President to come out in the open on these issues. Because if he fails to take action, the situation will escalate,” Sinkamba said.

He said late former president Edgar Lungu was a very good leader who Zambians missed dearly because he had a humane heart.
