THE Ministry of Health in Northern Province has confirmed the cholera outbreak in the province with 20 cases on record.

Provincial Public Health Specialist Dr Christopher Kombe said so far two districts namely Mpulungu and Mbala have been affected.

Dr Kombe said so far 20 cases have been recorded in the two districts with Mpulungu taking the lead.

According to a report on Mano Radio, monitored by The Mast, atleast 20 confirmed cholera cases have been recorded so far in Mbala and Mpulungu.

“19 cases have been confirmed in Mpulungu, out of which 9 are Zambians and 10 are Tanzanians. Another cholera case has been confirmed in Mbala district,” he said.

Dr Kombe, however, said a team from his office had already been dispatched to ascertain the outbreak and ensure that the disease was contained.

“We have quickly dispatched a team of experts who are on the ground in both districts to ensure that the situation is contained. Our message to our people is never to relent to good hygienic behaviour, we talk about drinking treated water, washing hands and cleaning our surroundings and seeking medical attention quickly,” he said.
