SA funeral parlour rejects Govt demand to inspect ECL’s body

By A Correspondent

TWO Mountains Funeral Parlour has declined Government’s demand to inspect the remains of late former president Edgar Lungu.

In a letter addressed to lawyers representing the Zambian government in Pretoria, South Africa, Two Mountains Funeral Parlour said its contractual obligations and professional duties were strictly tied to the Lungu family in the ongoing legal battle.

The funeral parlour insisted that it was bound by confidentiality, as well as court orders issued on June 25 and  July 2 this year and would not allow any inspection of the body without written consent from the Lungu family.

“Accordingly, we will not permit any inspection of the body or disclosure of any related documentation, including any pathologist or embalmer report, without your client’s prior written consent,” the letter reads in part.

Government, through its lawyers VFV attorney had written to the funeral parlour demanding the commissioning of a pathologist and Zambian special envoys to inspect the remains of former president Lungu.

The funeral parlour also reassured that the remains of former president Lungu continued to be preserved in accordance with their standard operating procedures, and there were presently no visible changes to their condition.
