TWO soldiers have appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court for trafficking in 61.9 grams of marijuana.
Chipako Chungu, 24, and Kennedy Mwanamwalye, 26, are jointly charged with Masebe Kasempa, unemployed.
The trio is facing one count of trafficking in psychotropic substances contrary to section 15 (1)(2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No. 35 of 2021 as read with Statutory Instrument No. 119 of 1995 of the Laws of Zambia.
Allegations are that the duo, on April 28, this year in Lusaka, jointly and whilst acting together, did traffic in psychotropic substances, namely 61.9 grams of marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis without lawful Authority.
When the matter came up for plea before Magistrate Kigan Litiya, the case could not proceed as one of the suspects was not before the court.
The state informed the court that one of the accused persons was not in court.
“Your honor, the matter is coming up for plea. However, one accused person is not before the court. We ask for an adjournment to a later date,” said the prosecutor.
Magistrate Litita adjourned the case to August 20 for a possible plea.
