POLICE in Pemba have launched a manhunt for a 15-year-old boy for allegedly sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl.
Officers close to the investigations have confirmed the manhunt after the girl was defiled by an underaged boy.
Officers said the incident happened on Wednesday around 12:00 hours in Mukopi village, with the victim sustaining pain around her private part.
“On the material day, the victim’s father left home around 09:00 hours to attend a village meeting, leaving the girl with her 11-year-old elder brother. Around midday, the victim went behind the house to use the toilet and met the suspect, who told her he wanted to tell her something and asked her to follow him where he was going. The victim followed the suspect until they reached a nearby bush, where he sexually abused her, covering her mouth with a cloth to prevent her from screaming.”
Southern Province deputy commissioner of police Moono Namalongo, also confirmed the incident.
He said a 27-year-old man passerby heard noise of a child crying and that the suspect ran away upon seeing him.
“Upon doing so, he found the suspect in the act of defiling the victim, with the boy fleeing the scene shortly afterwards. The witness then escorted the victim to her parents house and informed them of the incident, who in turn reported the matter to the police, where a medical report form was issued,” said Namalongo.
