A TRUCK driver was killed while 13 passengers were injured after a bus collided with an oncoming truck yesterday in Masaiti District in the Copperbelt Province.
Zambia Police Service public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi identified the driver as Harrison Tembo, 29, of Chawama Compound in Lusaka, who was driving a Hino Dutro truck, registration number CAM 6722ZM.
Chilabi said Tembo suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Masaiti District Hospital.
His body is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem.
“The other vehicle involved was a Yutong bus belonging to Scorpion Bus Services of Ndola, registration number BCA 9014, which was being driven by Victor Siame, 36, of Lubuto in Ndola,” Chilabi said
“The bus had its left front section damaged, while the driver escaped unhurt. Of the 13 passengers who sustained injuries, two were admitted to Masaiti District Hospital while 11 were treated and discharged,” he said.
Chilabi said preliminary investigations indicated the accident happened around 05:30 hours on Kabwe Road near Kalalangabo when the driver of the Yutong bus, which was travelling from Ndola, tried to overtake another vehicle improperly and collided with the oncoming truck.
He advised motorists to exercise care when overtaking.
