Left out Mweetwa says not bitter at all

FORMER information and media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa says he harbours no bitterness after being left out of President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent Cabinet appointments.
The Choma Central member of Parliament, who once served as chief government spokesperson, said he did not consider a ministerial position as an entitlement.
Mweetwa said this when he addressed the media at the National Assembly in Lusaka yesterday.
“I do not feel entitled to a Cabinet position because it is the prerogative of the President,” he said.
Mweetwa said those expecting him to be frustrated will be disappointed.
“If there is anybody out there who thought I would be disappointed in matters of this nature, I will not. I will support fully colleagues that have been appointed,” he said.
Mweetwa said he was still loyal to the ruling party, the United Party for National Development (UPND).
“I will remain loyal to the party in power and its objectives,” he said.
Mweetwa said his political journey was driven by principle, not personal gain.
“I stand on politics of principle and not politics of self-interest and aggrandisement,” he said.
Mweetwa said loyalty should be reciprocal and it was now his turn to support those in office.
“I enjoyed the support of my colleagues when I was Cabinet minister and now it is time to support them,” he said.
