THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province has arrested and charged Nicodemus Kalasani, a planner at Shiwang’andu District Health Office, for corrupt practices involving K50,000.
ACC said Kalasani, 46, has been charged with one count of conflict of interest contrary to Section 19 (3) (b) of the Public Procurement Act No. 8 of 2020 as read together with Sections 19(9) and 107 of the same Act.
“Investigations have revealed that Nicodemus Kalasani, on dates between 1st November 2023 and 30th June 2024 in Shiwang’andu District, being a public officer, namely a planner at Shiwang’andu District Health Office, failed to disclose his indirect pecuniary interest of K50,000 in Sahmilz Investments Limited,” the ACC said in a statement.
ACC said investigations conducted established that the owner of the said company was a friend of Kalasani and that the company remitted money into his bank account following each successful contract.
“This non-disclosure relates to a procurement matter concerning the supply of tools and equipment for use by Community-Based Volunteers (CBVs) at Shiwang’andu District Health Office,” the ACC said.
Kalasani has since been released on bond and expected to appear in court soon.
