DEC busts drug syndicate, nabs 2

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two notorious drug suppliers who were on its watch list for a transnational drug trafficking syndicate.
DEC public relations officer Allan Tamba confirmed the arrest of Moffat Mlotha, 39, a Malawian and Rebecca Nsomba, 53, a Zambian.
Tamba said the duo was jointly charged and arrested for trafficking 175 kilogrammes of dry loose cannabis concealed in sack bags and a laptop bag.
“The two, identified as Moffat Mlotha, male aged 39, a Malawian national and Rebecca Nsomba, female aged 53, a Zambian national, have been arrested in connection with the offence of Trafficking in 175 Kilogrammes of dry loose Cannabis concealed in sack
bags and a laptop bag. The consignment was allegedly transported from the Republic of Malawi into Zambia through Lumezi District in the Eastern Province,” he said.

“To ensure that crime does not pay, Mlotha and Nsomba have been detained in lawful custody awaiting Court appearances,” he said.
He described the arrest as a major milestone in DEC’s operation Kufeza.
Tamba said the Commission was committed to disrupting drug syndicates and safeguarding communities.
He commended members of the public for their vigilance and urged citizens, especially those along border areas, to remain alert and continue reporting suspicious drug-related activities.
