WE HAVE DIGNITY NOW
…Hichilema has built us modern palaces – Chief Madzimawe
SENIOR Chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people of Kasenengwa in Eastern Province has praised President Hakainde Hichilema for giving back dignity to chiefs by providing them with decent shelter.
In an interview with, Chief Madzimawe gave glowing tribute to Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND) government for restoring dignity chiefs in Zambia by building palaces for them.
“On behalf of other chiefs, let me say I’m grateful because we have been given the much needed respect by the government,” Chief Madzimawe said.
He said it was a very bad situation in the past because most chiefs did not have proper palaces with some of them living in deplorable palaces and houses.
“What I can say is that President Hichilema has given dignity to us chiefs by building palaces for us,” Chief Madzimawe said.
He said he was one of the first beneficiaries of the programme and was grateful for the gesture.
Government was not just building a palace but also an office and two houses for retainers.
“Even my brother, Chief Nzamane’s palace, has been constructed and it was actually commissioned in September,” Chief Madzimawe said.
He said the UPND administration had also increased monthly allowances for chiefs, which was “very good” because the traditional leaders had been facing a number of challenges in the past.
Chief Madzimawe appealed to Hichilema to hasten the construction of palaces so that those who had not received their palaces could also benefit from the programme. – UPND Media
