Liberate the people, Luapula chiefs tell Mundubile
By Adrian Mwanza
SENIOR Chief Nsama has appealed to the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) to liberate the Zambian people from the claws of the United Party for National Development (UPND).
And Senior Chief Mushota says Luapula is mourning the political imprisonment of two former members of Parliament Ronald Chitotela and Nickson Chilangwa.
Speaking to NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu when they paid a courtesy call on him, Chief Nsama said the UPND government had abandoned the people of Nsama District.
He urged Mundubile and Makebi to be the modern-day Moses and liberate the people of Zambia from the shackles of slavery and poverty under the UPND.
“Zambians want change and it is up to you to lead the people out of this suffering just like Moses did with the Israelites,” he said.
Chief Nsama said Zambians genuinely wanted change, not because they liked Mundubile or Zulu but because the UPND had destroyed the country.
He complained that the situation in the country was bad that even Vice President Mutale Nalumango had stopped picking his calls.
“Can you imagine that Vice-President Mutale Nalumango, who hails from this area, doesn’t answer my calls. She thinks I want to beg for money. “Awe…it’s not money I want; it is development I want in my area,” he said.
Chief Nsama said he endorsed Mundubile because he felt disrespected and insulted by the UPND government.
He said the UPND had let the people of Zambia down and that the general citizenry was fed up.
Chief Nsama said what was happening was not different from what happened in 1991, when a wind of change was inevitable.
And senior chief Mushota expressed sadness over the incarceration of Chilangwa and Chitotela, the jailing he described as death to the people of Pambashe and Kawambwa.
Senior chief Mushota who is the custodian of the Chishinga traditions said the constituency benefited from visible projects when Chitotela and Chilangwa were in charge.
“Today Pambashe is not the same because a son of the soil worked and his works are showing. If Chitotela were to be given back to us, the Chishinga people would be happy and blessed. Because no one, even the one that took over, can match the works Chitotela did here in Pambashe,” he said.
The Chief’s remarks have drawn attention across Luapula Province, with residents recalling a period when Pambashe saw significant infrastructure development under Chitotela and Chilangwa’s leadership.
Chitotela and Chilangwa are currently serving sentences with hard labour following convictions related to arson.
“No one can match the works Chitotela did. No one can be compared to Chilangwa,” Senior Chief Mushota said.
