Eject Andrew from civil service, Kangwa urged

ANDREW Banda has vindicated National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile’s position that partisan civil servants are not suitable in the civil service, the Tonse-PF Pamodzi Alliance has said.
On Monday this week, Banda, Zambia’s ambassador to South Korea, publicly announced that he had returned to campaign for President Hakainde Hichilema to protect his job.
“Its is extremely dangerous to have civil servants like Mr Andrew Banda in the civil service and a couple of days or weeks back president Brian Mundubile said such civil servants were not suitable for the civil service and he was misunderstood to be threatening civil servants,” Tonse National spokesperson Dr Lawrence Mwelwa said.
“Andrew Banda has vindicated [NRPUP] president Brian Mundubile that such civil servants are not the kind we need in the civil service.”
Dr Mwelwa challenged Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa to immediately act to protect the integrity of the civil service.
He said it was unfortunate for the country to have partisan civil servants because they were custodians of the State, continuity, and history.
Dr Mwelwa said when civil servants became partial, they put everyone in an awkward position.
“For those that are outside government, what sort of trust will they have in the handover that they are going to receive from those in government? Politicians, immediately they lost power the transition from one political party to the other was usually handled by those who were in the civil service,” he said.
“Now, if they show an approach where they literally declare that they are politicians in the civil service they put the country in an awkward position. It’s not good at all and I think the Secretary to the Cabinet must immediately act to protect the integrity of the civil service,” Dr Mwelwa said.
He alleged that Central Province permanent secretary Milner Mwanakampwe and the Mkushi district commissioner had been going round with other civil servants from the Department of Community Development preaching politics and campaigning for the current government using public resources.
Dr Mwelwa said last weekend the senior civil servants were campaigning for the UPND and against the NRPUP, misleading the public that the opposition would discontinue Social Cash Transfer which he said the UPND government had mishandled as beneficiaries were not receiving their monthly allocation.
